Mission
@Heart’s mission is to locate ordinary Muslims who are extraordinary Muslims. Misunderstanding, prejudice, extremism and deep-rooted emotions have clouded our perceptions of the Muslim community. We are unable to look at Muslim citizens and see past their exteriors to the strong, interesting, compassionate people within.
The Muslim community is not one voice or one story. Each have their own insight, our own vision, and our own strengths to contribute to the beautiful mosaic of Islam across the world, and it is this diversity that we at @Heart hope to capture through our podcasts.
It is high time Muslims, Non-Muslims and naysayers around the world learned what Muslims have to offer! Not just the larger-than-life Muslims, but the everyday Muslim heroes who affect and enliven the people around them:
- A Muslim soccer player from Sierra Leone who used his gift to escape civil war
- Moms trying to raise young Muslims battling with Autism
- Muslims developing health care clinics in disadvantaged areas
- A devout Muslim who cheered his UCLA Bruins as the school mascot
- The pioneers who established one of the first masjids in downtown Los Angeles
- And many more!
@Heart believes that hearing the personal stories of Muslims from the globe and hearing them talk about their own experiences can inform, inspire and transform our understanding of how they contribute to the world’s society.
